Policy Brief Instructions
Created Thursday 11 June 2026
This final assignment will reference a specific bit of information policy of your choosing; while you are free to choose something we've discussed in class, I recommend finding something we haven't.
Please provide an accurate legal or academic citation.
Looking backward, your brief should:
- articulate the policy’s original intent
- evaluate the historical context and the specific problem it was designed to solve.
Looking forward, your brief should
- assess how well this policy adapts to current and emerging technologies
- explicitly identifying any regulatory. legal or logical gaps or modern friction points you observe.
From this, develop a statement of likely effectiveness and further action. You might decide it is good as is (unlikely), you might decide it should be rejected entirely (also unlikely), or you might suggest modifications.
Formatting is generally up to you, write for clarity and conciseness. 1000 words, not including the policy itself, is a good minimum. Good Luck!
